August 2, 2012 - Joel Jens Racing Has a Solid Performance at SKUSA SummerNationals
In only his second Senior Division race, Wisconsin native Joel Jens piloted his Tony Kart, Woltjer powered Iame Leopard to an outstanding 2nd Place
finish in the Saturdays Tag SR class. Continuing on his momentum from the first round in Phoenix AZ, Jens is now considered a serious contender in
the ranks of the best TAG racers in the country.
The third round of the SKUSA ProTour on Saturday July 21st and found Jens near the top of
the time sheets in the qualifying session. The Tony Kart pilot would sit on top of the standings early, onlyto slip back to 6th overall. Jens and
his crew considered this a success. However, the day would not be an easy one for the team as the racing continued on. Heat one would see Jens start
on the outside of row 3 and begin his charge to the front early, racing contact in the fifth turn would find a compertior bumper inside his front
wheel, slicing off the valve stem leaving the fierce driver hearbroken with a flat tire and forced to retire to the pits on the very first lap and
ensuring a last place starting spot for the next heat. Sitting last on the grid for heat 2 Jens would look to move as far forward as possible.
Starting in his favorite number’s grid location (35) Joel knew this was a sign that good things were to come. Jens raced his #35 TonyKart up to
a 16th finish passing all the way to the checkered. For the final starting further forward the Jens Racing team knew that a successful finish was
more than possible as the package showed signs of speed all day long. Weather played a key strategy in the minutes up to the start of the race. Rain
began to sprinkle as the karts were on the track for the warmup laps and with a couple failed start attempts the outcome of the the race was going to
become exciting as the track was becoming slick with moiusture. This did not deter Jens at all as he charged thru the field at the start and began
looking for the leaders as the race went along. Finishing the 20 lap race with a second place finish after a penalty was assesed to one of the front
runners was the culmination to a hard fough day coming from the rear.
The fourth round of the ProTour the following day saw Jens compounded
with bad luck and a disappointing day. Jens commented “ Bringing home the hardware from yesterday more than makes up for the bad luck and
struggles we faced today” Sitting near the top of the points charts Jens looks to finalize his first year in TAG SR at the SuperNationals in
November with a win
