September 24, 2010 - WKA Manufacturer’s Cup Series - NJMP
Coming off of solid breakout finishes in the previous Manufacturers Cup round in New Castle Indiana, Joel Jens was prepared to finish of the season on
a high note in New Jersey. With school having started already, Joel traveled out to Millville NJ for a weekend of testing the weekend prior to the
Manufacturers Cup schedule. This turned out to be of great benefit, as many things were learned by Joel and his tuner Jason Matuszewski. In the
testing an on-track incident damaged one of the chassis, but everyone within the Team Franklin Motorsports team pitched into get Joel back on track
giving him the confidence in his equipment going into the upcoming race weekend. Thanks goes out to MDR for use of a kart.
The last race of
the WKA George Kugler Manufacturers Cup Series was being held in Millville NJ at the New Jersey Motorsports Park. Joel would be competing in the
usual classes of Komet Junior Light and Heavy as well as Yamaha Junior Light and Heavy. Coming into the race Joel was solidly in the top ten in 3 of
the four classes and was looking to end up in the top five or ten by events end. First up for the weekend was Komet Jr. Heavy where Joel qualified
5th and raced to a 4th place finish in the Pre-final. For the final a good close race with his teammate ended with a 4th for the day giving him
enough points to overtake a position in the National Point standings ending 4th for the year. Next up for the day was Yamaha Jr. Light where Joel had
not had the results he had hoped for early in the year, but was looking for an impressive finish for the season. Qualifying went well, with a solid
3rd but fell back slightly to a finish 6th in both the pre-final and final for the day. This respectable finish would solidify a top 10 for the
year.
Sundays class line up would have Joel entered in Komet Jr. Light and Yamaha Jr. Heavy. First up in Komet would find Joel classified in
8th after qualifications were finished. This result would have the talented driver and his mechanics searching for more speed in the days races. The
Yamaha class would see better results in qualifications, finding Joel in 4th for the day’s races. The eight lap Pre-final races would see Joel
finish 5th in both classes. The team was happy with the changes made from the morning’s qualifications and anxiously awaiting the finals to show
some speed. Unfortunately while running near the front early on in the Komet race, Joel was a victim of contact from another competitor. This contact
momentarily bogged down the engine, allowing several drivers to pass. Joel regained speed and charged back as far as he could to a 9th place finish.
For the final Yamaha Jr. feature race of the WKA year, Joel was determined to race hard and get results, coming off the disappointment earlier.
Starting 5th and charging early along with his Merlin teammate, Joel was looking good and inline for another podium finish to finish off the year. In
the end a 4th place finish was obtained to cap off a successful and rewarding year.
With the year now in the WKA record books Joel Jens Racing
would like to thank all those people and sponsors that helped to make his first year in the Junior ranks such a successful and rewarding time: Jamie
and George Sieracki of Franklin Motorsports, Jason and Vic Matuszewski for the expert tuning, Kevin Nelson and Switch Racing Engines, Gary Osterholt
of GO designs, all members of Team FMS, Merlin Nation and countless others. Without the help from all these people the year could not have been
possible. Finally Joel would like to thank the two most important people of his team, MOM & DAD!
